Curriculum

Our curriculum is based around weekly themes.  Themes include topics such as Transportation, Family, Community, Holidays, Heroes, Spring and Animals.  We plan hands-on, play-based activities integrating subject areas of art, music, literacy, math, science and social learning around our weekly theme for our teacher-directed morning group time.  During free-play, students may choose from our many toy or play areas, including our art table, reading loft, dramatic play area, sensory table, block play or theme tables.

Community Connections

We love being part of our neighborhood! Our curriculum includes connecting to our community.  Our location near downtown Burlington enables us to incorporate local places into our learning experiences.  Field trips to the bread bakery, fire station or music store enrich our curriculum.  With windows across the front of our school, we have a great view of our neighborhood activity.  We have a Giving Tree in front of the school to share books and winter gear.  We also contribute and connect by making dinner for the homeless shelter and  visiting residents at a nearby assisted living facility.

Gardens and Nature

We are fortunate to have a really huge back yard so near to downtown Burlington.  We have two back yards with lots of space where we cultivate vegetable gardens and a large strawberry patch.  We have trees, lilacs, vines and lots and lots of green as well as wildlife visitors.  We can explore nature from our own yard in the city!  We also have a rock play area, outdoor kitchen, water tables, play house, sandbox and climbing structures.

We spend time outside daily and love to play in the snow!
